VidKupas started from a personal need to speed up turning long video content into summaries or clips that are easier to consume. Rather than staying a personal script, it was developed further into a proper product - with a clear interface and a workflow other people can follow, not just its creator.
The entire process - transcription via Whisper and summarization via an AI model (DeepSeek) - runs entirely on the user’s own machine, not through a paid cloud service. That means no monthly subscription cost, and video data never has to be uploaded anywhere. Setup was kept as simple as possible through one-click scripts, so it’s usable by people who aren’t comfortable with the command line.
